Worship in the Modern World

Praising God with the Best of the Past and the Present

When all else fails, build it yourself…

The last few weeks, we’ve been getting things ready for our next series at Journey which starts on Easter. For one of the weeks, we’re going to be shooting a video illustration for the message. This will be the first major video that we’ve attempted. (We’ve done some short ones before, but this will be much more involved)

For several of the shots, we thought it would be great to have a camera crane. So off to eBay we went to see how much they’re going for these days. $299 dollars. Hum… A little more than we really want to spend right now…

After some head scratching and searching for places to rent one (with no luck, except for a place in LA) we decided to head over to the hardware store and do some brainstorming. We ended up getting everything we needed and built our own custom camera crane for $89!

OK, so it’s not quite complete yet. The bucket will be replaced with better weights for the counter balance and it needs to be mounted to a board for better stability, but it’s just part of the ‘can-do’ spirit that exists here at Journey. Our video guys presented us with a problem, we put our heads together, and found a solution – and saved a couple of hundred bucks.

Now we just have to decide what color to paint it. I’m thinking bright blue with racing stripes…

PS – If you’re interested in the plans to make your own, email me and I’ll send you some better pictures.
