Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid.

I can’t imagine what it would be like to be Mary at this time. Everything seems wrong.

What can she do now? If she goes home, she’ll be alone. If she prays, it will just be empty words. Her heart is broken and right now, can only focus on it’s brokenness. She can do nothing here at the tomb because the sabbath has started. The story is over, the air is empty. It’s dark. It’s midnight. Everyone has gone home, except her. She’s abandoned. Her world has been annihilated.

Mary, in your despair, pray your prayers, no matter how hollow – God will fill them. God is still God and he can do amazing things. He can take those hollow prayers and turn them into a hymn. Return to your home and prepare the spices. Observe the Sabbath rituals.

One story is done, but another one is beginning at sunrise.
